A political party in Afghanistan known as Wefaq, or The Islamic Unity Party, gathered recently in Kabul City's Shar Now Park to demonstrate against the corruption they contend is endemic in their country. The men came from many different provinces and represented all the major tribes. Their criticism, although leveled at the Afghan government - both petty officials to the president - also included foreign countries like Pakistan and Iran as well as the United States and NATO for installing and backing the current corrupt regime. But not all of the several hundred attending the rally were members of the political party - some were simply attending as a way of expressing their discontent. Also some of the protesters were quick to acknowledge the good that the current Afghan Government has done with western help in the area of infrastructure and with the security forces.
